Kemer, Turkey
Just fifteen years ago Kemer was little more than a small village quietly nestling between the pine clad Tauros mountains and the azure blue sea. It didn't take long for the villagers to realise that visitors from all over the world generally provide a richer catch than you can net from the sea, and today Kemer is a bustling cosmopolitan holiday resort.
The development has been largely sympathetic with buildings painted in pastel colours giving the whole place a warm and colourful feel. Many of the shopping areas are pedestrianized allowing you to stroll and window-shop to your hearts content. The resort centre has the wide choice of bars and restaurants that you would expect of a town of this size, and right in the centre is the marina where you can sip a cool drink and contemplate which of the moored yachts would suit your style! Sand runs away from either side of the marina with a small beach to the south backed by a park area with cafes and a water park with lots to keep the kids happy. To the north of town there is a much longer beach with a paved promenade running along its length. To our mind we’d recommend Kemer as a well-planned holiday resort with lots of facilities, although it isn’t really suitable for anyone looking for wild nightlife.
Sightseeing & Activities
The beach, watersports and restaurants in Kemer can keep everyone well occupied throughout a two-week holiday, but we’d urge you not to miss out on the other attractions. Take a short break from the beach and explore Yoruk Parki, which is a small park between the marina and the beach where you can see how people lived in Turkey hundreds of years ago. Or you can relax under the pine trees and try traditional Turkish food such as Gozleme (a type of dough filled with meat and cheese). A little further afield we also recommend the ruins at Phaselis which is built on a very small peninsula, with two small coves on each side providing the chance to sightsee and sunbathe at the same time.
