Winter Holidays In Turkey

Winter In Turkey

Holidays 4U started winter charter flights into Turkey 3 years ago to cater for the large number of people who have bought property in Turkey, or who have family or friends living there. For the Winter Season 2007/2008 which runs from November until the end of April we are offering flights to both Bodrum and Dalaman from Gatwick, Manchester and new for this year, Birmingham as well. We are also offering a number of accommodations for low cost package holidays with durations of up to 10 weeks.

You have to remember that Turkey is very different in the winter. No matter how big the resort, you can forget the high season crowds and get to see more of the ‘real’ Turkey. On the plus side, prices are cheaper and life runs at an altogether more relaxed pace, however on the down side the weather can be variable and there will be more road and building maintenance work going on.

Hints & Tips For Winter Holidays

• Our main resort pages describe resorts as they are in the summer. If you want more information about travelling in the winter months please call reservations.

• Turkey does not celebrate Christmas. Do not expect hotels to offer special Christmas activities and be aware that during Turkish holidays/festivals, much will be closed for family or private celebrations. This winter, Kurban Bayram starts on December 20th, 2007 and lasts for approximately 6 days.

• As the weather can be changeable, swimming pools are not usually functioning in the winter months and are rarely heated. If this is important to you call us to check on your preferred property.

• Certain sections of the main beaches will still offer sunbeds for the occasional hot days, but other areas are left to return to their natural state in the winter months. Even on the cooler but bright days, you may still want to spend time near the sea and this is possible, especially at the marinas.

• The service offered by the Holidays 4U Representatives in resort in the winter months is much more personalised and we will have someone on hand in our Resort Office in Marmaris and Gumbet to assist you with any questions, queries or concerns. They can assist you over the phone to arrange to see you at your accommodation and a 24-hour emergency line will be available. It is possible that your transfer to/from the airport will be unaccompanied.

Marmaris

Served from Dalaman Airport

Marmaris in winter is a sleepy resort and many of the businesses close for a well earned rest, but if you know where to look you can still find a good choice of things to do - the more astute cafe’s and bars are staying open all year. In Marmaris we will have a Holidays 4U Representative to look after you. They will be able to inform you about a wide range of things to do including local walks, shopping, fitness centres, dancing lessons, karaoke, good restaurants, cinema and bowling just as a few examples

Excursions to Ephesus, Istanbul, Dalyan as well as more local tours on the peninsula or the Turkish Bath can be booked and paid for in resort but some are dependent on the number of people wanting to attend. If there are not enough people to support a larger tour, it is possible that private trips can be costed and organized.

Bodrum

Served from Bodrum Airport

Bodrum is a bustling town even in winter, but if you are used to the summer hordes then winter will seem blissfully peaceful. Off-season is a great time to explore the old town and the famous castle without the crowds and with time on your hands there’s also the archaeological museum and many other ancient sites to visit. Holidays 4U will have a Representative on hand who can help you with suggestions of things to do.

Gumbet

Served from Bodrum Airport

The resort used to be a sleepy little village, but that's in the past, as the resort is now nearly as busy as its big sister, Bodrum, although Gumbet is a more seasonal resort with many of the local businesses closing during the winter. However, the local bus service keeps you in easy reach of the other busier resorts and our Representative will be on hand to give you advice of where to go and what to do.

Altinkum

Served from Bodrum Airport

Famous for its gently sloping sandy beaches fringing crystal clear waters, Altinkum means 'Golden Sands' and even in winter its two long crescent beaches are an attractive providing over a kilometre of sands that are ideal for beachcombing walks. Come evening, although Altinkum is much quieter than in the summer there’s a choice of restaurants and bars to suit most tastes.

Even if history was never your thing at school you can't ignore the ancient world when you stay here as Altinkum is close to many fascinating ancient sites where you can almost feel the past. Nearby is the small resort of Didim with the Temple of Apollo where the famous snake-adorned head of Medusa stands, and the sheer size of the columns is truly amazing. For a longer day-out visit the inspiring ruins of Ephesus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Or for something completely different you could walk around the nearby beautiful Bafa Lake with its magnificent mountain backdrop.

Fethiye

Served from Dalaman Airport

Being a true town rather than just a resort, Fethiye is a great place to visit in the winter. Life bubbles along all year-round and along the tree-lined promenade behind the yacht marinas there’s a wide selection of restaurants and bars that keep on serving through the winter.

Even more havens for good food and cocktails line the narrow and mostly pedestrian cobbled lanes that thread the older part town, where you’ll also find excellent shopping for quality leather and gold alongside carpets, rugs and ottoman pillows. There’s plenty to explore all around and we’d recommend the chaps visit a Turkish barber for the closest shave you’re ever likely to get.

Calis Beach

Served from Dalaman Airport

Located around the bay from the charming old town of Fethiye, just as its name suggests, Calis Beach is all about a long stretch of sand and shingle backed by a long promenade with restaurants and gentle bars. Get your favourite barman to pour you a glass of something cold and take in the fabulous sunsets which are perhaps some of the best to be found anywhere along the coast.

When you fancy a change of scenery then take a dolmus or a water taxi to Fethiye to see the Crusader castle and take advantage of the superb shopping, not to mention the bars and characterful restaurants that give this town a truly unique flavour.
